Science

The User Community of SIPS will benefit from synergies in Switzerland, making best use of an entire palette of methods: ground- and space-based observations, laboratory experiments, and theory and simulation.

The scientific vision of SIPS aims to understand the formation, evolution and habitability of planetary systems (Solar System and exoplanetary systems) and their constituents, including the search for life within and beyond our Solar System.

SIPS scientific teams participate in missions exploring bodies all across the Solar System

Exploration of the Solar System

Our scientists are involved in international collaborations to develop and exploit major satellite missions to all types of bodies (planets, moons, asteroids, comets, etc.) in our Solar System.

Exoplanet Investigation

Switzerland is a world leader in exoplanet discovery and observation. SIPS teams develop instruments and missions covering the full spectrum of detection and characterisation methods.

Joining Communities

The Swiss community links exploration of the Solar System and exoplanet investigation to search for and study past and present habitable worlds.
